The study abroad program in Santiago is an immersive, academically enriching experience packed with adventure! The program begins with a three-week pre-program in rural Chile focused on community-building, cultural understanding, and language immersion. Following the pre-program, students arrive in the vibrant city of Santiago, where they stay with host families and learn a whole new way of life!

The program in Chile is ideal for students seeking to significantly improve their Spanish while being able to satisfy a number of University requirements and engage in meaningful co-curricular activities. Students in the Santiago program take classes at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica (UC-Chile), one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Latin America. ND students are required to take Chilean Politics and Society, taught by the Director of Notre Dame Santiago, and a Spanish for Foreigners class. Many students opt to take a community based learning course, a few select students engage in research in Astrophysics using some of the world’s most advanced telescopes, and all are welcome to join one of many athletic and artistic clubs at UC Chile!

There is a four-semester college-level Spanish requirement for admission into the program; exceptions can be made for students whose native language is Spanish. All majors are welcome to apply.
